Who Are the Vanquished?
In the distant future, the detritus of a long dead people is discovered in a previously unexplored system. Very little of this ancient species remains, but the few fractured historical records found indicate that they were displaced refugees, compelled to abandon their original planet—the third orbiting body of a system referred to as "Sol." Efforts to identify this system are unsuccessful. They named their new sun “Novus” and after thousands of rotational cycles they populated multiple worlds within the system.
Despite the scarcity of data on these "Novians," a significant source of knowledge is uncovered in a preserved collection of artistic works. Although the collection is damaged and incomplete, it has remarkably endured the passage of eons. The meticulous preservation of this collection suggests it was highly valued. This becomes a wealth of information since each piece is accompanied by a brief description or biography. The recovery of each new file reveals a small glimpse of Novian society, who they were, and how they lived.
