All of the worlds the Novians eventually inhabited required initial transformation of the atmosphere, as well as continuous long-term management. The primary method of atmospheric regulation utilized massive, automated processing machines. On Caelum, the majority these structures took the form of spires erected in the sole ocean, and powered by the temperature differential between the near-boiling water and the chilled air from the icy dark side of the planet. Thousands of these hydroliths dotted the ocean, continuously neutralizing carbon and producing oxygen. Remnants of these structures exist to this day, and remarkably, one was discovered still partially operational.
