The high radiation levels on Caelum left the Novians with the reality that natural procreation of viable offspring was no longer possible, and they were forced to adopt a more clinical process. This new impersonal laboratory method of reproduction continued indefinitely even after radiation was no longer an impediment to organic procreation.
The only exceptions were Ascetic communities who after thousands of cycles rediscovered the sexual mode of reproduction, which had become nearly forgotten and was regarded as strange and peculiar by the wider society. This "natural" method of procreation was seen as inefficient and genetically unsound, contributing significantly to the disdain held for the Ascetics.
Even though sexual reproduction had become obsolete and, the majority of Novians had lost the physical and emotional capacity, a residual biological urge remained. This was deemed a vestigial weakness and over many generations was eventually eliminated from Novian physiology by the Progen Ministry. However, for a relatively brief period, this erotic desire was explored, and sometimes exploited through virtual methods made possible by the study of erotology.
With a small boutique in the Kleo Market, subject Rekina 422 regarded themselves as an Erotologist, but they were closer to what was commonly referred to as a "Spinner". While Erotologists studied erotic impulses on a clinical level, this subject focused primarily on the development and distribution of virtual routines which could be loaded for the purpose of gratification.
