This along with the development of planetary shielding meant the need to replace organic body parts diminished. The practice continued however as a method of dramatically prolonging life spans. Soon, flaunting one's synthetic augmentations evolved into a fashionable trend and a symbol of social prestige. Those with unaltered organic bodies were regarded as inferior and even "unclean."
Before the advent of nanite technology, organics were surgically removed and replaced with synthetics. Pristine organic components known as "orgus" were highly prized by collectors, known as "Pinkers." Most of the populace were eager to exchange their organics for advanced synthetic bodies. This resulted in enhanced physical condition, extended longevity, and elevated social status, presenting no apparent disadvantages to the procedure.
Residing on Elesius, the subject Revis 423 was a high-end collector and since their collection contained items other than orgus, they deplored the label "Pinker" favoring the title of "Orlitus instead." Over time, the subject gained significant prominence in the field and amassed a considerable collection. Having lived 734 cycles, they stipulated posthumously the auction of their brain. The proceeds of this auction were purportedly allocated to an unidentified individual on Caelum.
