The purifiers however intentionally obscured the technological aspects of the process, and instead performed elaborate ceremonies infused with dogmatic fervor. Gradually, the majority of Novians began to view purification not as a technological process, but as a metaphysical phenomenon, and purifiers became a new spiritual gentry ordained by the emperor himself.
