Initially necessary for replacing radiation-damaged organs and later accepted as a cultural norm, Around A27:500, the act of anatomical mechanization evolved into a pseudo-religion. Replacing biological bodies with cybernetic apparatuses was termed "purification," a process performed in ritualistic convocations administered by High Clerics known as "Purifiers".
Novian citizens tended to showcase their cybernetic enhancements during portraits and special occasions, but they typically donned long, dark cloaks in their everyday lives. It is speculated that this was to protect their bodies from wear and keep their gilded cybernetic hardware in pristine condition. However, as seen in this portrait, purifiers always remained cloaked, perhaps as a sign of temperance.
